Small Fire Continues to Burn
Alternative Learning System A & E and Skills Training Program are both on its second year of serving the marginalized and disenfranchised members of our community. This noble program of St. Andrew’s School is sustained through the generous effort and support of the Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations and other bighearted individuals.
Hon. Mayor Jun Bernabe, through Parañaque Livelihood and Resource Management Office headed by Mrs. Doris Marquez, sponsors the Skills Training Program. Which offers the following courses: Pipe fitting, Welding, Hotel and Restaurant Services (HRS), Cosmetology and Basic Reflexology.
On the other hand, the Alternative Learning System A & E is sponsored by Hon. Cong. Ed Zialcita who signed a memorandum of agreement stipulating his support for four years to SAS – ALS program. Hon. Mayor Jun Bernabe, Mr. Jun Banaga, Mr. Roland Bernabe, On this Memorandum Of Agreement is stated Mrs. Es Nery, Ms. Ely Chan & Beth Rodriguez of the Catholic Women's League he will donate 1 million pesos which will be given in four tranches to be used for the said program, while the Barangay officials of Don Galo, La Huerta, Sto. Other NGOs such as Saint Andrew’s School Alumni Association Inc. (SASAAI) , Catholic Women’s League (CWL), Rotary Club-Poblacion, Knights of Colombus 3713 and SSI Group of Companies continue to support both programs in cash and in kind.
The SASAAI donated the materials and equipments for the course Pipefitting and welding while the Rotary Club –Poblacion and Knights of Colombus agreed to make this program their life long project. The Rotary Club –Poblacion also donated 3 units of computer for the computer literacy program of both the ALS and Skills Training learners. The SSI Group of Companies donated 14 hi-speed sewing machines for the Dress making / Doll making course. And St. Andrew’s School finally institutionalized these programs and allocated 50% of its income in the Annual Mission Fair for ALS A & E and Skills Traning Program.
Indeed what started as an outreach program turns out to be the small fire that continues to burn for the deprived, depressed, underserved members of our society.
